Really seemed like it took forever to paint these but it was mostly life getting in the way. I have some spearmen to finish up and I need to get some heroes and wizards completed so I can have a nice battle against my High Elf army. <br />

I won in an eBay auction from a guy in Australia. They came with these old edition Chaos Knight horses which led me to paint the shields differently. Originally I was going to paint them all the same and use just the red lettering on the general to make him stand out. I felt that these called for a more sinister look and decided on the black and red shields. In addition to those knights, I also finished on with white shields to bring that unit up to 7 figures. <div>
<br /></div>
<div>
This group of mercenaries has spent time against the dark lords of Chaos and may have returned tainted. </div>
<div>

<div>
I’m very pleased with the look of this army so far. </div>

<div>
I’m back to my Stirland Army currently. Working on 8 knights and I have some crossbowmen from TAG ordered for the DoW army. The two forces are shaping up nicely!</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
So far this year I have completed:</div>
<div>
16 handgunners</div>
<div>
5 pistoliers </div>
<div>
9 Voland’s Venators </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>

Pretty happy with how they turned out.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://i.imgur.com/34DbJR3.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="600" data-original-width="800" height="240" src="https://i.imgur.com/34DbJR3.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://i.imgur.com/6run0SC.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="600" data-original-width="800" height="240" src="https://i.imgur.com/6run0SC.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
Here’s the Stirland Army as it stands. There’s a lot of firepower right now, but there will be more melee troops added to the ranks. I need a handful of more archers, but the plan is to include a company of halberdiers, spearmen and swordsmen. Elite troops will be company of knights and great swords. <br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://i.imgur.com/R3imEow.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="600" data-original-width="800" height="240" src="https://i.imgur.com/R3imEow.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
Those are the longer term plans, next on painting queue are 9 Voland’s Venators and then I will finish the box of Empire Knights.Killshot Productionshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05533671714121868551noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6488657211450512070.post-18763319285022384322018-01-03T11:27:00.002-08:002018-01-03T11:27:51.896-08:00Empire/Dogs of WarNow that the High Elves are pretty much completed they’ll need an opponent or two. I’ve started an Empire and Dogs of War army late last year. Eventually, I hope they’ll be large enough to be two separate Armies. I imagine the Empire will eclipse the DoW eventually simply due to the ease of acquiring figures.<br />
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
First up for the Empire:</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Pistolliers </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://i.imgur.com/Lk8IGek.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="600" data-original-width="800" height="240" src="https://i.imgur.com/Lk8IGek.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div>
Archers</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://i.imgur.com/KfUaJpD.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="600" data-original-width="800" height="240" src="https://i.imgur.com/KfUaJpD.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
A warrior priest</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://i.imgur.com/SKJVyZi.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="600" data-original-width="800" height="240" src="https://i.imgur.com/SKJVyZi.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
For the Dogs of War:</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
General</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://i.imgur.com/2JRpgA7.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="600" data-original-width="800" height="240" src="https://i.imgur.com/2JRpgA7.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div>
Voland’s Venators/heavy cavalry</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://i.imgur.com/AqvWzye.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="600" data-original-width="800" height="240" src="https://i.imgur.com/AqvWzye.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div>
Figures on hand to paint:</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
5 more pistolliers </div>
<div>
16 hangunners</div>
<div>
8 Empire Knights</div>
<div>
9 more Voland’s Venators</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
I’ve made a lot of progress with the pistolliers and handgunners and expect to complete them this weekend. </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
So far 2018 has been great as far as the hobby goes. Need to get some games in and keep play testing the rules I’ve developed. </div>
Killshot Productionshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05533671714121868551noreply@blogger.com4tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6488657211450512070.post-31695603878753485222018-01-01T19:38:00.000-08:002018-01-03T11:28:19.606-08:00Well, the blog has certainly gone by the wayside for a long time. The biggest reason is I had a deployment to the Middle East that took me away for almost 14 months. Since returning to the States I started a new job that has (and continues to require) a lot of training away from home. I’ve done some painting, but all of my previous pictures have been snagged in the round up by photobucket. I don’t have the heart to move them, so I’m going to just continue on.<br />
<br />
I don’t have a hobby New Year’s resolution, but there are plans!<br />
<br />
Biggest update is the High Elf army I completed. I still have a few units I want to add, but this is it for the time being.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://i.imgur.com/LNwzyWP.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="458" data-original-width="800" height="183" src="https://i.imgur.com/LNwzyWP.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
The characters for the High Elf army. Currently they’re all unnamed and without back ground but they will develop them during battles! <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://i.imgur.com/Y46uRwE.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="600" data-original-width="800" height="240" src="https://i.imgur.com/Y46uRwE.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://i.imgur.com/rPEM5yN.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="600" data-original-width="800" height="240" src="https://i.imgur.com/rPEM5yN.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://i.imgur.com/plKbr1N.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="600" data-original-width="800" height="240" src="https://i.imgur.com/plKbr1N.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
Dragon Princes, I absolutely love these models. <br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://i.imgur.com/7TgBxOy.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="600" data-original-width="800" height="240" src="https://i.imgur.com/7TgBxOy.jpg" width="320" /></a>I</div>
<br />
Reavers<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://i.imgur.com/BsDWBk0.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="600" data-original-width="800" height="240" src="https://i.imgur.com/BsDWBk0.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
Shadow Warriors, probably my favorite infantry kit from GW:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://i.imgur.com/1UGbK4Y.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="600" data-original-width="800" height="240" src="https://i.imgur.com/1UGbK4Y.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
I really just liked the gryph hound models:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://i.imgur.com/CAGpiAQ.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="600" data-original-width="800" height="240" src="https://i.imgur.com/CAGpiAQ.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
The Sword Masters and Sea Guard from the Isle of Blood have been in here before:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://i.imgur.com/LnYlCNY.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="600" data-original-width="800" height="240" src="https://i.imgur.com/LnYlCNY.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

Four more mounted sergeants armed with crossbows. I'm really considering adding some dirt stains to the end of cloaks, for medieval soldiers they look too clean! </div>

These are the first two Mounted Sergeants with crossbows I've completed. I like the Fireforge kits, I understand they're not for everyone but the figures and the cost are great. I'll do the bases when I've completed all six figures.<br />

Back in 2013 I went through Accelerated Officer Candidate School for the Arkansas National Guard and this past summer I attended my Basic Officer Leadership school as well as loads of teacher training for my day job. <div><br></div><div>Since I returned we have been trying to find a new house so many of my models and paints have been packed up. My awesome wife bought me a new painting table for Christmas so I've been able to get back to some painting recently. </div><div><br></div><div>No pictures to share at this time, but I'm working on more of the Fireforge Foot Sergeants. I picked up a box of Gripping Beast Vikings and Warlord Games Celts to make some fantasized Viking Beserkers.</div><div><br></div><div>I've had some ideas for a large scale fantasy skirmish game floating around in my head for a while and finally wrote them down. I hope to get plenty of play testing done over the next few months and then I'll share them with anyone who would like to try them out. </div><div><br></div><div>My hopes for 2015 are to get plenty of painting done - this will include more High Elves which need archers and cavalry and some more Fireforge miniatures - and plenty of play testing of my rules I wrote for me and my kids. </div>Killshot Productionshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05533671714121868551noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6488657211450512070.post-55052930837221672052014-03-29T08:12:00.000-07:002014-03-29T08:12:19.035-07:00Foot Sergeant Update 1<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i1102.photobucket.com/albums/g444/SamFradsham/Mobile%20Uploads/image-50.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://i1102.photobucket.com/albums/g444/SamFradsham/Mobile%20Uploads/image-50.jpg" height="238" width="320" /></a></div>
These are the first 4 Fireforge Foot Sergeants I completed to test out the color scheme I had in mind for them. I deliberately chose muted colors to really differentiate them from the brightly colored elves. The skin color I tried is new to me and I really liked the results. I used cork brown, washed with brown ink, when back over them with cork brown, washed with tanned flesh, and finally added more highlights of just cork brown. I am pleased with the results. My plan is to add Templars eventually, and they will have a variety of shield designs.Killshot Productionshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05533671714121868551noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6488657211450512070.post-15449823272227870932014-03-28T08:07:00.002-07:002014-03-28T08:07:48.578-07:00Ioviani seniores<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i1102.photobucket.com/albums/g444/SamFradsham/Mobile%20Uploads/image-43.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://i1102.photobucket.com/albums/g444/SamFradsham/Mobile%20Uploads/image-43.jpg" height="238" width="320" /></a></div>
These are 1/72 Late Romans from Tumbling Dice Miniatures that I painted as <i>Ioviani seniores </i>for a commission. I have 12 other miniatures I am working on as <span style="background-color: white;"><i>Herculiani seniores</i>. I think the bearer carrying the Eagle is my favorite out of this unit of figures. </span>Killshot Productionshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05533671714121868551noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6488657211450512070.post-62777844492427728272014-03-26T13:07:00.000-07:002014-03-26T13:07:30.786-07:00The Human Element<a href="http://i1102.photobucket.com/albums/g444/SamFradsham/Mobile%20Uploads/image-42.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://i1102.photobucket.com/albums/g444/SamFradsham/Mobile%20Uploads/image-42.jpg" height="147" width="200" /></a>I just received a box Foot Sergeants from Fireforge Games in the post today. I put together 24 of them to represent the household guard of a rich family. They're armed with spears, swords, and crossbows. The other half will represent a less wealthy family and will be armed with spears, axes and maces, and bows or I will use them all in zombie conversions....I haven't decided yet. I have previously assembled a box of Fireforge Templars on foot and these Foot Sergeants are a much better kit. The weapons are better size and the arms do not go out at crazy angles. <br />

The picture is extremely washed out, I think the dark uniforms against the fair skin did it in. I painted the uniforms with Reaper Miniatures Military Green and Vallejo Beige Brown and then washed the uniform with Army Painters' Dark wash.<br />

The white is a build up from pale green to the pure white, while the green/blue is Jade Green from Coat d' Arms paints. I added black to the Jade Green for the shadows and white for the highlights.<br />

He'll go into my growing ogre warband that will fight for the highest bidder on the table top. I roughly plan to have 4 or 5 ogres for the warband depending on how many I find that I really like. Reaper has some excellent ogres and there are some old Citadel figures I'd like to add if I can find them without spending an arm and a leg to purchase them.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i1102.photobucket.com/albums/g444/SamFradsham/Mobile%20Uploads/image-32.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://i1102.photobucket.com/albums/g444/SamFradsham/Mobile%20Uploads/image-32.jpg" height="235" width="320" /></a></div>

<br />
Here's a group shot of the two ogres so far, both from Reaper.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i1102.photobucket.com/albums/g444/SamFradsham/Mobile%20Uploads/image-34.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://i1102.photobucket.com/albums/g444/SamFradsham/Mobile%20Uploads/image-34.jpg" height="238" width="320" /></a></div>
Finally, here are five High Elf Sword Masters from Games Workshop. They're excellent miniatures and finely detailed.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i1102.photobucket.com/albums/g444/SamFradsham/Mobile%20Uploads/image-35.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://i1102.photobucket.com/albums/g444/SamFradsham/Mobile%20Uploads/image-35.jpg" height="238" width="320" /></a></div>

<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i1102.photobucket.com/albums/g444/SamFradsham/Mobile%20Uploads/image-29.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://i1102.photobucket.com/albums/g444/SamFradsham/Mobile%20Uploads/image-29.jpg" height="238" width="320" /></a></div>
Here's the group shot of the 16 total. I have completed 6 with the Repeater Crossbows, one with a sword, a standard bearer, and 8 with spears. I need to pick up another box to add more with swords and 2 more with the Repeater Crossbows. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i1102.photobucket.com/albums/g444/SamFradsham/Mobile%20Uploads/image-30.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://i1102.photobucket.com/albums/g444/SamFradsham/Mobile%20Uploads/image-30.jpg" height="238" width="320" /></a></div>
Finally, a shot of the Eternal Enemies in action:<br />

I'm not sure of the manufacturer of the miniatures, but I believe they'll be used in some Traveller RPGing. <br />

I've finished the commander that came with the Sea Guard from the Isle of Blood.<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i1102.photobucket.com/albums/g444/SamFradsham/Mobile%20Uploads/image-21.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="238" src="http://i1102.photobucket.com/albums/g444/SamFradsham/Mobile%20Uploads/image-21.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div>
Here's a group shot of the Sea Guard:</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i1102.photobucket.com/albums/g444/SamFradsham/Mobile%20Uploads/image-22.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="238" src="http://i1102.photobucket.com/albums/g444/SamFradsham/Mobile%20Uploads/image-22.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div>
I bought these Dark Elves for my son with the intention of getting a live-in gaming partner for Warhammer and I painted these up and rebased them for LotR.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i1102.photobucket.com/albums/g444/SamFradsham/Mobile%20Uploads/image-23.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="238" src="http://i1102.photobucket.com/albums/g444/SamFradsham/Mobile%20Uploads/image-23.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div>
The final pictures are of some HE commanders (mounted and on foot) that I found when I was searching for an extra shield </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i1102.photobucket.com/albums/g444/SamFradsham/Mobile%20Uploads/image-24.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="238" src="http://i1102.photobucket.com/albums/g444/SamFradsham/Mobile%20Uploads/image-24.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div>
His shield is blank because I haven't figured out how I want to paint it. I was going to free-hand the Sea Guard design, but it looked terrible. So, for now, I'm going to leave it white until I figure it out.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i1102.photobucket.com/albums/g444/SamFradsham/Mobile%20Uploads/image-25.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="238" src="http://i1102.photobucket.com/albums/g444/SamFradsham/Mobile%20Uploads/image-25.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div>
The horse's original tail had snapped off over the years (I've had this model since I painted a HE army for 5th and 6th edition). I replaced it with the top knot from a Chaos Space Marine and it is the final part I need to paint - besides the shield.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Finally is the dismounted commander, I have no recollection of ever purchasing this miniature and not sure who started the paint job. His sword arm and shield arm were both missing. I replaced the shield arm with a plastic spearman arm and attached a blank shield.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i1102.photobucket.com/albums/g444/SamFradsham/Mobile%20Uploads/image-26.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="238" src="http://i1102.photobucket.com/albums/g444/SamFradsham/Mobile%20Uploads/image-26.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div>
The sword is from the Tyrion model. I was missing so many parts to Tyrion that he was relegated to the bones pile and gave up his sword. It's a massive sword, thankfully it's magical, otherwise it might be too large to actually swing with any speed or force.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i1102.photobucket.com/albums/g444/SamFradsham/Mobile%20Uploads/image-27.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="238" src="http://i1102.photobucket.com/albums/g444/SamFradsham/Mobile%20Uploads/image-27.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>

I hope everyone has had a wonderful holiday season. My first post of the New Year is a set of 20mm Late Roman cataphracts from Tumbling Dice. These are commission pieces and the client does his own basing and weapons. After I complete some work on my High Elves, I will work on some Tumbling Dice infantry.<br />
<br />

Up next for the High Elves is the leader of the Sea Guard. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i1102.photobucket.com/albums/g444/SamFradsham/Mobile%20Uploads/image-18.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="238" src="http://i1102.photobucket.com/albums/g444/SamFradsham/Mobile%20Uploads/image-18.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
I've been trying a different base color for the white robes and I'm pleased with the result. I started with pale olive from Reaper Miniatures and worked my way up to the white. <br />
<br />
Here's a group shot of the nine I've completed so far.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
The riders are from Newline Design as well as the unarmored horses. All of the armored horses are thought be from Tumbling Dice.<br />

The three on the left are from Newline Design and the three on the right (minus the middle horse) are from Tumbling Dice. It's extremely odd that Tumbling Dice advertise these figures at 25mm (1/72) while they are actually a bit smaller than the Newline 20mm figures, while their horses are ginormous! The Tumbling Dice figures are nice, but they definitely lack the detail of the Newline figures.<br />
